Year 6 Parents/Guardians

10 June 2020 (by Emma Fisher (Emma))

We have received an email from Helen Watts, the transition co-ordinator from DeLacy. We know that moving to high school is usually a daunting time but especially under these strange circumstances and you will have questions. Hopefully this information we have requested from DeLacy will ease answer any of your questions and ease any worries you or your child may have but if you do need to speak to someone the DeLacy school number is 01977 722489.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give you an update with regards to transition for our new year 7s moving to De Lacy academy this summer.

Transition Events

As you can probably guess, we will be unable to have the normal transition event that was planned for Monday 13th July.

Due to this, I have been working alongside a company in the last few weeks making a bespoke virtual event for students, parents and yourselves to access, which will hopefully help with any concerns anyone might have about the move to high school. The video will feature short audio clips of some key staff and an insight to what our working classrooms look like etc.  I anticipate that this will be ready in the next two weeks, but I will contact you when it is ready to view, so please bear with me! Should we be able to plan a face-to-face transition event we will contact primary schools and the parents to arrange this, though at this time it is highly doubtful given the current situation.

Uniform

I'd just like to mention that school bags, which all students must have, can now be purchased from the SPT uniform website at a cost of £12 and that any additional uniform orders can also be sourced from this website. School shoes must be black and must not look like trainers. Any branding or white stripes are not allowed. More information with regards to uniform orders is attached. Please note that all Pop Up Shops have now definitely been cancelled.

Questions

Students may need reassurance and many will have questions which need answering. Please do not hesitate to email us any of these questions and we will respond so that you can share these answers with students and allay their fears. Our twitter feed is also available to all families, and yourselves. The twitter handle is @DeLacyAcademy. Lots of useful and up to date information can be found here throughout the year.

Start Date

Our start date for year 7's should be Tuesday 8th September at 12:30pm; I will personally meet them outside the reception area and take them into school to give them a tour of the academy, meet their form tutors and give them their planners etc. I will contact you if the date specified changes in any way. This may include passing on information to parents about Social Distancing requirements though we will be writing to parents separately to ensure they have all the necessary details.
